Scalpel Circle

A Symbol of Support

Created in 2016, the Scalpel Pin represents the technical excellence unique to surgical practice and symbolizes a Fellow’s commitment to advancing surgery through leadership support of the American College of Surgeons Foundation. Members of the Scalpel Circle form a distinguished community of donors whose philanthropy strengthens the future of surgical care.

“This scalpel pin reminds me how gratifying it is to support something I’m passionate about.” says ACS Past-President and early Scalpel Pin recipient J. Wayne Meredith, MD, FACS, MCCM. “The American College of Surgeons plays a vital role in shaping the future of surgery - from education and training to advocacy and patient care,” says Dr. Meredith. The Scalpel Pin serves as a visible commitment to sustaining that impact for future generations.

What to Know

The Scalpel Pin was designed to recognize Fellows and friends of the Foundation who demonstrate a significant philanthropic commitment to the ACS. Pins are available through three giving tiers recognizing new gifts or pledges of $5,000 or more:

  • Ultimate Scalpel ($25,000+)
  • Gold Scalpel ($10,000+)
  • Silver Scalpel ($5,000+)

Gifts may be directed to any ACS program.
